HAUTE, HOT, HOT!

This is Britt, another one of our lovely models who participated in our in-house photo shoot, recently. As you can see from the "before" image, her hair is quite long and the color was very uneven with major new growth at the roots. Even though the ombre look is very trendy, with colored ends and mid-shaft that devolve back to the root area, that is a very deliberate and articulated look. Britt's look was the result of waiting too long between highlighting appointments. We simply evened out the color and substituted some of the darker sections with a fantastic icy blond look. In the first look, notice the long barrel curls and how the color is consistent from root to ends. In both looks, the long bangs help make a great statement. In the first look with all the hair down, it helps frame a great face and in the second look, the bangs help to draw attention away from her long forehead. Along with the long bangs in the second look, the hair gathered on the side, in the back, tells a great story of simple sophistication.

DRAB to GLAM!!!

This is Alicia, who participated in our in-house photo shoot. Notice the color - bright, shiny and consistent from scalp to ends. This is very important if you like to wear your hair up one day and down the next. Yes, there is maintainence involved but the results are fabulous and really enhance your image. Notice also the different colors of lips in each look. The softer, coral tone really lends itself to the casual, chic look that both the hair and clothing are portraying. The darker, vivid red lip color is very high fashion in this look, which is enhanced by the graceful upswept hair that is very reminiscent of the early 1900's Gibson Girl look.

The first look at the photo shoot images from Sunday. As you can see from Aivy's "before" look, she has super straight hair, with the remnants of a long ago hilite framing her face. Teresa lightened her hair all over with a much warmer color and shaped up the cut while taking about an inch off the length. The first look was styled with all her hair framing her face while allowing the texture of the cut and the dimension of the color to be the star of the show. After we shot this look, Teresa then simply restyled Aivy's hair to create a voluminous and glam look.

Annual In-Salon Photo Shoot

Mouton's has been a part of the Global Hair & Fashion Group for several years. Each year the some of the team members travel to either New York, Miami or LA to take part in the domestic shoots. Additionally, one of the principals of Mouton's, Teresa travels to either London, Paris or Milan to take part in the international collection shoots with the other members of the Global Hair and Fashion Group. This past weekend, the producer, photographer and the makeup artist of the group travelled to the salon and most of our in-salonMouton's team members participated in the shoot. Leslie Sowell, Michelle Molina, Kimberly Lewis, An Ngo and Sherri Long were all scheduled to do a model. However because we had such a great model turnout, all of those who came to assist wound up doing a model or partially doing a model as well. Kelly Day, Jennifer Carrouthers, Ashley Parker, Carlyn Kalush, Becca Petty and Souky Mosana all help to round out the styling crew. Our own Jessica Mathews along with a personal friend of hers, Chelsea Birk, an accomplished makeup artist in her own right, secured all the clothing for the shoot from the Pink Hanger in Colleyville and also from an up and coming line of clothing from a new Texas designer.

Kathryn Foster who is a very talented stylist at Mouton's was a model as was our new intern, Selena Morales. Of course, the entire process was managed by one of our customer service coordinators, Stephanie Shawl, who did an amazing job, conducting the model call and organizing the schedule for the shoot. Over the next few days, we will be releasing the 21 different looks and crediting them to each person or persons involved. Continue to watch this space!

Fashion Above the Neck, New York

This look is really about focus.

This young lady knows that the drama of her look is in her asymmetrical haircut, strong contrasting eyebrows, bubblegum pink Chanel lipstick and her quirky tomboy hat.

Let's not forget that clothes can be just a distracting as they are alluring, and by keeping her clothes very simple she's creating a clear "take-away" statement for the viewer.

The more I do this blog the more I believe that great hair and well choosen accessories can be the raison d'être for a whole look.

Remember this young lady from Savannah? I do.

Her sexy, shaggy cut created a mysteriousness about her (something I see often in France - I think French girls in particular are very good at this). Again, by keeping the fashion simple she has created a very strong and concise fashion message.

Were I a young lady I would easily spend as much on a good haircut/styling as I would on a Celine dress - after all, it's something you wear every day.

In fact, if it's a really good cut, you can also wear it in a variety of ways - not always the case with clothing.

The Glass Slipper 2011

This weekend, we were fortunate to host a group of students from Cross Timbers Middle School, in conjunction with The Glass Slipper. This is our second year to work with this organization, and each year we aren't sure who benefits more- the students or our team. Our Mouton's team always enjoys working together and lending a helping hand, especially using our gifts and talents for the benefit of others. This year our team worked together to offer Special Occasion Styles, Makeovers and manicures to the girls. Here are just a few pictures, to show the fun that was had by all. Great job ladies!

Intercoiffure America/Canada Holds Spring Conference in South Beach

It wasn't just another hair show in Miami when celebrity artists and the industry's most successful salon owners gathered on April 17-18 for a full program of creative presentations and workshops. What made ICA's Spring Symposium, one of Intercoiffure America/Canada's two annual events, unique, was the exceptional access to the industry's top talent. As you know, Mouton's Salon has been a member of this prestigious organization since the mid-1990's and always comes away from these events full of great ideas and creativity.

One of the highlights of the weekend was the presentation from Vivienne MacKinder, Fashion Director for ICA. MacKinder has already created several notable collections, in which she's drawn on the romance of classic styles and couture to showcase her technical wizardry. Her newest work, "Shadows & Shapes," brings abstract architectural shapes to life in bold, yet surprisingly feminine hair designs. MacKinder uses various styling and texturizing techiques to produce a wide range of variations on the same basic cut. "So many women and stylists fear cutting hair short. 'Shadows & Shapes' demonstrates that a well-balanced shape complementing the bone structure can be feminine and beautiful, no matter what the length is."

Jo Blackwell-Preston, co-director of ICA's Haircolor Council served as colorist for the collection, and Roberto Ligresti shot the images. The team was completed by David Widjaja as fashion stylist and David Maderich as the makeup artist.

On Sunday, March 20, several of our Mouton's team members volunteered their off time, to practice their skills. We focused on how to execute photo shoots and get great images everytime. As you know Mouton's Salon is constantly published in all of the hair -focused magazines and we want to make sure that everyone has an opportunity to learn the techniques that go into having a successful shoot. Michelle, who has participated in many location shoots for Mouton's was there on Sunday, as was Jennifer, who even though she has been with Mouton's for 11 years, had never joined us at a shoot. Also, joining us were Kimberly, An, Jada and Jenny. Souky came as well and was a model for An. Sherri came to help where needed and wound up not only doing makeup and assisting the photographer, but wound up doing a "look" as well. Everyone got at least 3 different looks from their models, which is an important part of doing photo shoots - being able to be flexible and achieve different looks with the same model and same haircut and color! We are posting just one look from each team member here on the blog, but will be posting more images on our FaceBook page.

During the holidays, we asked for your involvment in helping us to bless those who were less fortunate. You might remember the Christmas tree ornaments that we hung on our front desk trees, listing families in need and what we could do to help make their holidays less stressful. We had a great response and wanted to share some of the personal cards that we recieved from the grateful recepients. We also want to give a big thank you to FirstBaptistEuless - preschool department, http://www.firsteuless.com/ and 6 Stones - a local outreach to the least privileged in our community, http://www.6stones.org/ Thanks to these two organizations for letting us become involved locally in giving back.

Color America Show

This past Sunday/ Monday a group of our team was able to attend the Color America Show, hosted by Intercoiffure Mondial. We have been a member of Intecoiffure Mondial for over 15 years. We are always honored to participate in educational classes hosted by this organization because of their high standards, quality of presentations and level of knowledge each presenter has and shares with the audience.
It is a very refreshing week at Mouton's! The staff is excited to share what they learned with the team members who were unable to attend the show, and with their clients! Our staff is always interested in learning new color techniques. They commented on how each instructor applied their foils differently, and each had different results. One trend that is in high demand and fun to create is the Ombre color (see image to the right). It's a new trend for the season, and it takes a fresh look on how to apply the color. After talking with each staff member, they all commented on the desire to be creative and to not "put yourself in the box". The desire of the team is to continuously push to be creative and try new things on clients. It's important to offer clients the latest techniques and trends that will flatter their lifestyle and image.

Intercoiffure America/Canada has just released their latest collection of styles, Glamorama.

Every year, each world chapter releases a style shoot, which reflects the fashion director's creative vision for that year. This new release by Fashion Director, Vivienne MacKinder, reflects fashion dipping into the nostalgic past, by celebrating iconic images like those of Brigette Bardot and Sophia Loren. The styles in this 50's inspired collection feature bold shapes, dressed and backcombed, with architectural elements added to the classic bouffant.

LOXX Salon Photo Shoot

We just want to give a big notice of recognition to 5 of our talented team members from Mouton's Salon. On Sunday, Leslie, JessicaM, Michelle, Jenny and Ali stepped up and took their day off to help create awareness for our new salon brand, LoxxSalons. On Sunday at our Euless location, Loxx Salons held a photo shoot for the drill team members of Grapevine HS. This was actually our 3rd photo shoot for the local high schools - we had shot Colleyville HS and LD Bell HS in Hurst, previously. Because the Fillie squad is larger than the others and because Loxx was open for business at the same time, we needed lots of extra help. These ladies from Mouton's all volunteered to help do whatever needed to be done. What they wound up doing was a lot of styling and makeup! Thanks to Ali and Jenny for a great job on the makeup and to Leslie and Michelle for just clearing the way and doing hair in the corners and on the edge of the desk. Leslie and Michell have traveled with Mouton's doing photo work, so they were able to make some sense of all that controlled chaos.

Big nod to JessicaM, who not only doubles as a front desk person for Mouton's Salon but has really grown into her role as organizer and media person for both brands. Because of her, it was organized and well executed.

Mouton's in Nicaragua

Recently, one of our team members, Sherri Long took a week of unpaid leave to go with another group on a missions trip to Nicaragua. Before she left, Mouton's helped to fulfill a list of needs that a beauty school/salon in Nicaragua had requested. We happily purchased many of the items on the list and Sherri graciously agreed to carry them to the school. She not only delivered the items, she also happened to leave a little bit of excellence while there. As you can see from the pics, Sherri had a great time, cutting and explaining the Mouton's system to an eager audience. We want to thank Sherri for taking time to help make a difference in someone else's life. Thanks also Sherri, for asking us to help. We were happy to be included.

Hard at Work

Oribe Style Class

On this past Sunday, we invited Adam Livermore into the salon to share with us his knowledge of our new product line, Oribe, as well as to show us a new and exciting finish out techniques. Adam is a competive stylist, who has competed and won several awards and honors within the international beauty industry. When not working behind the chair in NYC or on an educational events he is collaborating with top fashion photographers and designers. He has worked backstage for several fashion weeks for Giorgio Armani.

Transition From Summer To Fall

The transition from Summer to Fall is easy to embrace because it is a natural transition.

To transition your HAIR COLOR from Summer to Fall, try the Ombre technique. Sarah Jessica Parker's color is a beautiful example of this. Ombre is a progression of color from dark to light. There are many different techniques and patterns to apply the color, but the best is to make a progression of colors on the same strand. This is also a very easy color to maintain, because all you have to do is retouch your roots.

The HAIR CUT recommended for this color technique is a shape with creative layering. This is a fun color, so it makes sense that your layers would compliment this. This style is very easy, it is fun to do a simple part down the middle, and add curls or use your natural texture. We recommend Oribe Volumista to spray before blow drying and Oribe Dry Texturize for maximum volume.

Summer to Fall is an easy transition for your wardrobe. You can use your favorite summer pieces in fall very easily. Do you have a favorite dress that you rocked this summer? Add a cardigan or a blazer over it, throw on a belt and structured boots. Wear a favorite summer top with wide leg trousers or a pencil skirt. Switch your slouchy hobo bag for a polished structured bag in a neutral hue.

This passed Saturday evening a small group presented the Fall Trends to our team members. This is something we do for the beginning of Fall and Spring. The group spends time outside of work to prepare to educate our staff on the season's hottest trends for Hair Cuts, Color, Makeup and Fashion. This year each member of the group created a story board to represent their trends. The 3 trends they presented were: Summer to Fall (a how-to), Old & New (vintage styles worn today) and Yesterday to Tomorrow (taking inspiration from yesterday for today's trends). We would like to applaud Jenny, Diana, Sherri, and Jmat for all their hard work. If you're in the salon over the next week take a moment to check out their story boards!

We would also like to thank Bess & Evies, Ma Dame Fiery, and Letticia Howland for letting us use their beautiful pieces for the show. Bess & Evie's attended the event and sold their unique vintage pieces to our staff. So thank you Kalen, for our gorgeous dresses, stylish cowboy boots and vintage pearl snaps!

Loxx Salon Art Contest

Loxx Salon is hosting an Art Contest for individuals in the community between the ages of 18-25. We are in the process of creating the Loxx experience and are in need of color! Originally our lease space was planned to only be 1,000 sq. ft. Due to availability we are currently in a 1,500 sq. ft. location. Once you enter our salon your eyes are drawn to all off this "empty" space throught the salon. We've got a cool thing going on with everything else we just need help matching the interior with the rest of us.

Loxx is committed to our community and social networking. Our demographic is both male & female clients between the ages of 18 and 25. We off Hair Cuts, Color, Party Hair and our famous Style Bar.

While our team waited to open we volunteered for Women & Children homes in the area cleaning, organizing, and giving away hair cuts. We also work closely with 6Stones in Euless. We collected backpacks at our salon (and Mouton's). We also gave free haircuts to kids who needed one before school started.

Anniversaries

As the month of July draws to a close, we want to take a few words to say thanks to the following people who celebrated a job anniversary with us.
Leslie Sowell who has been with Mouton's Salon since 2001. In addition to seeing customers, Leslie has taught for us, she regularly assists with inventory control and is an all around hard worker. She consistently sees more customers in any given week, than most of the rest of us. Thanks, Leslie, for your hard work.
Ashley Parker has been with Mouton's salon since 2004. Although she still sees customers two days in a week, she also splits the salon director responsibilities with Jessica Wenth during the remainder of her work week. If you need something done, and soon, Ashley is the "go to" person.
Tracy Tarbet celebrated two years with our organization earlier this month as well. She spent the first 18 months with Mouton's Salon and for the last six months has helped to launch our new brand, LoxxSalons. www.loxxsalon.com Tracy will be operations director of this new concept as we look for growth opportunities going forward.
Jenny Myers and Monica Adamson also passed a celebration date earlier this week. Both ladies started with Mouton's, one year ago. In just a short time, they have made tremendous strides in adapting to our culture and standards. Jenny joined us from another salon group in Ft Worth and brought great insight to us, while Monica joined us after moving to Texas from Santa Monica, CA, where she attended the world famous Vidal Sasson Academy.
Congratulations ladies - all five of you, for doing such a great job and upholding our standards.

Farewell to Lindsay......

Aaahh....today is a bittersweet day for all of us. Lindsay Lane Huckins is leaving today to become a full time mom. Lindsay has been with Mouton's Salon for the last 3 1/2 years, and has been a complete asset to our entire organization. Lindsay started with us as a customer service coordinator, which included responsibilities at the front desk as well as other duties. After a period of time, Lindsay made a decision to get licensed as a cosmetologist and went through all of the requirements that entailed. After doing so, she came back to the Mouton's team in a different capacity. Since that time, Lindsay has excelled at her job and has also been an integral part of the growth of Mouton's Salon. During her time as a hairdresser at Mouton's, Lindsay was part of the first and the second team that put together an in-house Trend Release for the rest of the team. The Trend Release is now part of our culture at Mouton's, thanks to Lindsay's initial inputs. Lindsay was also tasked with creating a teaching tool regarding our retail products. With some assistance from Brett (hubby), she presented the team with something that we have used during our intern trainings and only now are having to update. Earlier this year, Lindsay devoted a great deal of time to an extracurricular project that is close to her heart, Revive Africa, www.reviveafrica.com, all the while, maintaining a full schedule at Mouton's. Mouton's had the great pleasure of hosting this event which was a great success.

We will miss Lindsay and her beautiful smiling face, but we are extremely happy for her and Brett and look forward to the arrival of baby Harper.

Lindsay, we pray many wonderful blessings upon you and Brett and we, your Mouton's family want to be among the first to wish you much success in your new role as a full-time Mom.

So many people to thank for an excellent photo shoot yesterday at the salon. As you can tell from the title of this post, this was our 4th annual in-salon shoot. As many of you know, we have been doing photo shoots around the country - LA, NY, Miami, and around the world - Milan, Paris, London, for many years. Four years ago, we decided to start doing one shoot a year at our home base. The results have been spectacular, with our home base shoots being published as much as our location shoots have been. This year will prove to be no exception. Big, big thanks to all of our team who took the opportunity and had the time to take a Sunday (our day off!) and show up and generate some fabulous looks.

We would like to take this opportunity to honor Robert Herrera for starting his 12th year at Mouton's Salon! Robert has a Bachelor's Degree from the School of Architecture at UT of Arlington. For his trade, he has studied at Martin Parson's Academy in Canada, LLongueras Institute of Spain, and Vidal Sassoon Academy in California. Outside of the salon he enjoys spending time with his beautiful wife Jessica, playing on his hockey team, cycling and working out, and being healthy! His favorite part of being a designer? It may sound cheesy, but he truly enjoys being the best part of someone's day, and making woman feel beautiful.

Revive Africa Benefit

We would like to thank everyone who participated in our event this past Saturday. From everyone who donated either your time and/or your products to all of the volunteers who helped to set up the salon on Saturday afternoon, to all of the guests who came with your wallets and hearts open wide, we thank you each and everyone. With your help, your donations and your dollars, we were able to raise $12,000 for the Wellington Orphanage in Sierre Leone, Africa. www.reviveafrica.com
Through the efforts of Revive Africa, the funds will be used to provide bedding, modernize and update the sanitation system of the orphanage, provide educational opportunities and solve transportation hindrances.
We will provide links to all of the participants/donors in a future post, but we would like to acknowledge a very special someone on our Mouton's staff that had the vision to make this happen - Lindsay Lane Huckins. Lindsay worked diligently to make sure that the event would be a success and what a success it was. She connected with many people during this process and has done an excellent job of representing Mouton's Salon and Revive Africa. Mouton's Salon is very blessed to have someone like Lindsay who has vision and the wherewithal to see it to completion. Job well done, Lindsay.
We also want to acknowledge the efforts of a few of our staff members, who on Saturday volunteered their time to make sure that the salon was ready for the event. Ashley Parker, Robert Herrera and Sherri Long came early to help set up. Leslie Sowell and Jessica Wenth not only came in on their early, but they both stayed late to help clean up. Thanks to all, again, especially everyone who attended and demonstrated your compassion for the children by speaking with your dollars.

We want to take this moment to recognize Jessika Mathews on her anniversary with Mouton's Salon. Jessika is celebrating 4 yrs with us today. A graduate of Abilene Christian University, Jessika worked for designer Amy Tangerine in LA, before coming to Mouton's Salon. Jessika came onto the Mouton's Team during a transitional period for the front desk dept., and assumed the role of a front desk coordinator as well as an assistant to the owners during that time. Since then her role has evolved from a front desk/customer service coordinator to assistant to the owners to coordinating, collecting and maintaining all of our different media outlets. She is single handedly responsible for the content of our website, our multi media pieces with in the salon and still manages to find the time to assist customers and keep Bruce straight. Congratulations and a Big Thank you, Jess for who you are and all that you do.

This look was simply done by spraying Sebastian Zero Gravity through the hair to give it a little texture. We then did a French braid without combing, so the texture remains and it is purposefully not smooth. When the braid was complete, we pulled some strategic pieces to add a bit more interest. For a more polished look, pin the braid up into a nice messy bun at the base of the neck.

History seems to repeat itself this year as jumpsuits break free from time capsules...but this ain't yo' mamma's jumpsuit. On the left is Kelly in a contemporary black and white print. This look can go from hanging out, to a night out with a simple change of shoes and lipstick.

This past Sunday, Mouton's Salon held our semi-annual Trend Release at the salon. This season is all about texture, style and bringing something new to the classics. Jenny, Carlyn, Sherri, Robert and Erin each had a part in the presentation and collaboratively showed the rest of us some new coloring techiques, a different perspective on updo's and party hair as well as a few interesting and new methods for makeup application. Robert started with Mouton's Salon in 1995. After rejoining us around 2004 or 2005, Robert has continued to be a great asset to our team. With a degree and background in architecture and design, Robert brings that skill set into play when executing his signature style. He has additional training from the Vidal Sassoon Academy in Santa Monica, CA, as well as from the Llongueras Training Program in Barcelona, Spain.

Robert, thanks for your contribution to our group and all of the things that you do for all of us. Congratulations!

Linda just completed 9 years with us as our aesthitician. Linda has been with us through all of our growth these last few years and was with us when we experienced some of our trying times. Linda, thanks for your loyalty and your dependability. We appreciate these qualities in you.
Also to acknowledge is Lindsay's last three years with us. She started as a front desk team member, went to school and has quickly become a great strength within our organization. Several people have asked (including those of you who gave), how much money we raised for our charity of choice, the PKD Foundation. As you can see in the post below, we fielded 4 5-person relay teams, 1 half-marathoner and 1 marathoner in last Sunday's White Rock Marathon. Although the run is officially to benefit primarily the Scottish Rite Hospital, www.tsrhc.org, our select group ran for the PKD Foundation. www.pkdcure.org We had raised over $1800 dollars by race time, thanks to all our customers and our staff, who contributed tip money and paid for the privilege to wear jeans on select days, with the money going into the PKD jar. Because we wanted to raise at least $2000 for the foundation, those who wanted to, wore our race t-shirts and everyone wore jeans and paid for the privilege to wear our non-uniform look. Thanks to this last ditch effort of all our staff, we officially raised over $2000 for the PKD Foundation. This was for you, Nancy!

White Rock Marathon

On Sunday, a great portion of our Mouton's Salon team participated in the White Rock Marathon which has taken place for the last 40 years in Dallas. http://www.runtherock.com/ This year the race started and finished at the American Airlines Center, while the course continued through downtown and Uptown Dallas, Highland Park, around White Rock Lake, Lakewood and portions of East Dallas. In running, our team raised funds for the PKD Foundation, in honor of one of our customers, who has been diagnosed with the disease. http://www.pkdcure.org/ This year's race allowed for relay teams in addition to the full and half marathon. Mouton's Salon was able to field 4 different 5 person relay teams that ran the entire race, plus our very own Tracy T, who ran the entire 26.2 miles to complete the course. In addition, Ashton P's husband, Justin ran and finished the half marathon on the behalf of Mouton's as well. Because of schedule conflicts and health related issues not all of our team was able to actually run, but even those who didn't run came down the the AAC to support the rest of us. Ashton P, Leslie S and her son and Tiffany M were on hand to cheer us all on. Tiffany also lent her son, Kyle, to help complete one of the relay teams. In addition to Kyle, we also had Robert's wife and brother-in-law, Ashley's husband and friend, Jessica W's friend and two of Carlyn's friends who assisted us. Rounding out the teams were two of Ali's friends as well. From Mouton's - Tracy, Carlyn, Robert, Kellie, Ashley, Sherri, Jennifer,Ali, Bruce and Teresa all competed in the race. Great job, everyone. All of you who joined us as "conscripted volunteers" - thank you as well.

As you may know, Lauren is expecting her second baby and has made the decision to stay home after the birth and be a full-time Mom. Intercoiffure Mondial

The aristocracy of the salon industry met at the Waldorf-Astoria in NYC on Oct 17-19. Intercoiffure America/Canada (ICA) held its annual Atelier New York on this weekend, gathering its elite membership to network and celebrate their craft.

The Atelier was established in 1969 as a performance workshop where Intercoiffure members could demonstrate their craft for other members. Over the years, the Atelier has evolved in a major creative event for the hairdressing industry. Mouton's Salon has been a member of this elite group since 1994. ICA is comprised of more than 300 salon owners employing more than 27500 employees. The average annual sales volume for an Intercoiffure member ranges from $1.5 million to $85 million. In addition to their economic clout, Intercoiffure members set the creative and quality standards for the industry.

Among the presenters this year - Laurent D, a trend-setting, internationally reknowned stylist with a long list of clients; Australian guest artist Peter Hanmer who currently serves as chairman of the Australian Intercoiffure organization; Nick Arrojo, the hairdressing host of the TV reality show, "What Not to Wear"; and Oribe, the rock'n roll hairdresser who helped develop the "supermodel" concept in the '80's.

In addition to all of the artists above, Scott Cole the Fashion Director of ICA, along with his group presented a very exciting design show entitled "Post-Modern Jazz".

Grapevine Concert Series

Well everyone, let's try again. This Saturday evening at 7:00, join us at the Grapevine Botanical Gardens for another presentation of the Sunset Concert Series. Last Saturday, the weather chose to be uncooperative, but the weather this weekend looks great. This is the fourth annual season for the Sunset Series and the third year that Mouton's Salon has been the exclusive sponsor for the event. This week the artist is Marshall Smith. This brass ensemble offers everything from Broadway to Beethoven to Big Band, The Beatles and beyond! This band's focus is on contemporary Pop and Jazz but also contains original works and arrangements of many styles. If you're not familiar with the Grapevine Botanical Gardens, this would be an excellent way of checking it out while enjoying some great music and hanging out with friends. Once again, Mouton's Salon is sponsoring the fourth annual Sunset Concert Series of Grapevine, every Saturday night in October. Each week will feature a different musical act. This week features the Lone Star Jazz Orchestra. A real crowd favorite. This is Big Band at its best! The swingingest 15 piece band in the land with a traditional Big Band sound. This band plays hits from the 40's and 50's such as; In the Mood, Little Brown Jug, Satin Doll, Sing, Sing, Sing, Fly Me to the Moon, and many, many more. If you like Glen Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Woody Herman, Stan Kenton and Count Basie, you will love the Lone Star Jazz Orchestra. Even if you're not a big band fan, you've got to love the idea of an early fall evening, listening to music on a blanket on the lawn of the Grapevine Botanical Gardens, while sipping your favorite beverage or enjoying some popcorn and snacks. We recently held our semi-annual trend release, showcasing both trends in hair and clothing. Lindsay Huckins, Michelle Molina and Jessica Mathews worked very diligently and many long hours to produce this release. They were assisted by a group of supporting teammates which included Leslie Sowell, Sherri Long and Jenny Myers. Lindsay and her team did a fantastic job and the results were stunning. The Global Hair and Fashion Group is an organization of some of the U.S. and Europe’s most creative salons. Bringing hairstyle and high fashion together is the group’s mission when members gather to brainstorm the latest trends and interpret the results for their salon clients. The group’s creative vision takes them to the world’s fashion capitals for regular photo sessions, the most recent of which was shot in New York. Color, highly nuanced and shown off through a variety of cuts and textures, was the focus of the Global Hair and Fashion Group’s latest venture.
The Color Code collection was a collaboration of six member salons from the U.S. and Germany. The team created blondes that incorporate tones of icy platinum, warm honey and deep, rich shades at the root. A sleek brunette sports shifting shades of mahogany that change with the light and accent the lines, and a stunning red head features a deep crimson fringe.
The styles were designed to grow out cleverly, offering re-styling options and changing tonal shades.
Photographer Tom Carson shot the collection against backgrounds of glass and reflective aluminum to light the color from within.

Over Spring Break, a local church - Gateway Church - sent the Global Ministries Dept. to Honduras with a team of youths, led by one of our customers, Mark Jobe. http://www.gatewaypeople.com/

The team visited women's prisons, orphanages and even a facility that helps special needs individuals learn a trade or craft. Mouton's Salon sent shampoos and conditioners with the team, to be distributed where needed. BTW, the post a few days ago about some shampoo bowls that we had sent to Africa and to Honduras....these are the bowls...Those of you who have been long time customers of Mouton's, may recognize these bowls from our store on Forest Ridge in Bedford. A group of our team has been preparing a Spring Fashion Event to present to our staff. This model is the only one who is smiling in the entire 100 slides of The Best of New York Fashion Week for Fall 2009. Speaking of our former location - when we moved from the Bedford location, we had just leased some new shampoo bowls and chairs that we wound up not using in our Grapevine location. Because of the terms of our lease, we were not able to return the equipment in a trade and had to get all new stuff ...chairs, stations, shampoo bowls and chairs. That left us with some equipment that we weren't able to incorporate into our new design. Because we were still obligated to pay for the equipment that we couldn't use, we tried to find some kind home for the left over shampoo bowls and chairs. We wound up donating a section of the bowls and chairs to Tegulcigapa, Honduras to be used in a salon that was being started by a group of ladies there. The other section of bowls and chairs were donated to a beauty school in Nairobi, Kenya. We recently received a couple of pics from the school in Africa. This is our first time to see these pics. For those of you who have been long time customers, when looking at the photo on the top, you will recognize the shampoo bowl and chair from our Forest Ridge location.

We were going thru some old pics last night and came across these photos. This is our salon before we moved to Grapevine. It was in Bedford and we built this building and were here for four years before we outgrew it.

Where Friends Meet

We had our annual State of the Salon meeting this Sunday at Farina's on Main Street in Grapevine. They call themselves a place "Where Friends Meet". Our day was wonderful!
The service was impeccable, the food was delightful and the atmosphere was welcoming.
Thanks to Diane and Paco for all their hard work throughout the day. Our team had a wonderful time.
